Leather Care Instructions

Your OMI bag is made from genuine Italian leather — a natural material that develops a beautiful patina over time. With proper care, your bag will look even better as it ages. Here’s how to keep it in top condition.

Daily Care

Store your bag in the dust bag provided when not in use. This protects it from dust, sunlight, and scratches. Keep your bag away from direct sunlight and heat sources, as prolonged exposure can cause the leather to fade or dry out. Stuff your bag with tissue paper to help maintain its shape during storage.

Cleaning

For routine cleaning, gently wipe the surface with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust and surface dirt. For deeper cleaning, use a slightly damp cloth with a mild, pH-neutral soap. Always test any cleaning product on an inconspicuous area first. Never submerge your leather bag in water or use harsh chemicals, bleach, or alcohol-based cleaners.

Conditioning

We recommend conditioning your leather bag every 3–6 months to keep the leather supple and prevent cracking. Use a high-quality leather conditioner designed for Italian leather. Apply a small amount with a soft cloth using gentle, circular motions. Allow the conditioner to absorb for a few hours before buffing with a clean cloth.

Handling Stains and Spills

If your bag gets wet, blot the moisture immediately with a soft, absorbent cloth. Do not rub, as this can push the stain deeper into the leather. Allow the bag to air dry naturally at room temperature — never use a hair dryer or place it near a heater. For ink or oil stains, consult a professional leather cleaner rather than attempting to remove the stain yourself.

Hardware Care

The metal hardware on your OMI bag is plated to resist tarnishing. To keep it looking its best, wipe hardware occasionally with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid contact with perfumes, hand sanitizers, and other chemicals that can damage the finish.

The Beauty of Patina

One of the hallmarks of genuine Italian leather is that it develops a patina — a subtle sheen that deepens over time with use. This is a sign of authentic, high-quality leather and is part of what makes each OMI bag unique to its owner. Embrace the patina; it tells the story of your bag’s journey with you.
